The Group’s main activities are research, manufacture and sales of rechargeable batteries, its main products include Lithium-ion batteries , Nickel-Cadmium batteries and Nickel-Metal hydride batteries. BYD Co. is the third largest portable rechargeable battery producer in the world and supplies batteries for telecom, home appliance, power tools, emergency lighting, and laptop computers and is also a major OEM producer for worldwide brands. Monthly output amounts to Li-ion cells 8 million, NiMH 6 million, NiCd 40 million cells.

In September 2000, BYD Co. moved to its new manufacturing facilities in the industrial park in Kuichong Longgang District, ShenZhen, which covers an area of 259,000 square meters and employs over 15 thousand employees. These consist of a R&D team, with 200 senior staff consisting of professors, doctors and masters. In addition, a material research center, a battery technology research center and new product development center is also on site.
